Short run labels printed digitally in the Borble press room. The Xeikon 3300 adds considerable productivity benefits to the 330 though in most operational ways they are similar. For example the in-line buffer zone which links Borble’s digital label workflow from the digital print engine to the in-line suite of post processing stations.

The GM finishing lines on both Borble’s Xeikon presses contain varnish, lamination, die-cutting, slitting and reeling in a continuous process. The skilled and experienced digital press technicians at Borble frequently top-up varnish, replace lamination, change die tools, fit reeling cores and undertake routine preventive maintenance tasks during print of the short run and numerous label varieties in the typical production schedule at Borble. To perform these routines productively the buffer unit enables printing to continue while post processing is halted to make the change. The post processing line is then re-engaged and accelerated to deplete the buffered labels back to normal status.
Window Stickers digitally printed full colour for short run quantities and finished in line with a white PP backing for durability. This is another great example of Digital Printed Labels with actual examples in the case study see Digitally Printed Window Stickers.
The Borble operation with 2 Xeikon presses including the UK’s first 3300 fast press and each with in-line post processing make this unique in Europe and offers benefits to our customers including
• Fast labelsprint service
• No plate costs
• Label proofing on press
• Many label designs printed in one run
The illustration below left shows green labels in normal label flow from the 3300 to the first stage of varnish. The right picture shows the buffer extended to hold yellow labels while the operator made a change to the post processing line; it is not usual to see the buffer extended this far but it makes a good photo.
A tip to Xeikon users can be seen on the green line where colourfast and solvent free dry toner cartridges are rolling on the buffer to loosen particles ready to be emptied into the engine.
